‘First, stress causes many people to stress eat. … Cortisol is a stress hormone that promotes body fat and makes it harder to lose weight, especially around the stomach. Third, when someone is stressed they generally sleep less. Less sleep, chronic fatigue causes the hormone ghrelin to rise.’
(Ghrelin is a hormone that is produced and released mainly by the stomach with small amounts also released by the small intestine, pancreas and brain. Ghrelin has numerous functions. It is termed the ‘hunger hormone’ because it stimulates appetite, increases food intake and promotes fat storage – so overproduction makes us feel hungrier and store more fat arghhhhh!!!)
Stress is something none of us want but we all have in our lives. Our inner voice can sometimes make us feel everything is wrong. Most of the time we are making something insignificant a huge deal. So in the words of disney – try and “let it go”. Ask your self can you do something about this right now – if yes do it. If no schedule it for a time when you can.
Also look back at a recent stressful situation – for example running late. And ask yourself did getting stressed about being late get you there quicker? Normally the answer is no – in fact getting stressed can make you panic and lose focus. So take a deep breath and try a different approach.
